How did the players fare in Middlesbrough’s 3-0 win over Leeds?
LEEDS (4-2-3-1):
Darlow 4; Byram 4 (Gruev 63, 5), Rodon 4, Wober 4 (Struijk 63, 5), Firpo 4 (Bogle 63, 4); Ampadu 4, Rothwell 5; Gelhardt 4 (Gnonto 63, 4), PIROE 6, Aaronson 5 (Rutter 63, 4); Bamford 4.
Subs (not used): Meslier (gk), James, Joseph, Crew.
MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1):
7 Brynn: Didn’t have a lot to do, but made an excellent second-half save as he kept out Piroe’s fiercely-hit shot
9 DIJKSTEEL: Absolutely sensational as he tore up and down the right touchline – the effort that broke the deadlock is likely to remain a contender for Goal of the Season
7 Howson: Picked up a yellow card for a foul on Howson, but was always in the right position to shut down the Leeds attack before being replaced just before the hour mark
8 Clarke: Produced another excellent display as he kept Leeds’ attackers at bay – strong in the tackle and composed whenever he had the ball at his feet
7 Engel: Kept Gelhardt quiet on Leeds’ right-hand side and made some neat passes forward
8 Morris: Another performance that suggests he is more than ready for life in the Championship – already looks an astute summer addition
7 Barlaser: Slotted in effectively at the base of midfield – kept the ball moving and helped ensure Boro remained on the front foot
8 Jones: A constant threat on the counter-attack as he broke with pace and purpose – should probably have scored when he chipped into the side-netting
7 Gilbert: Grew into the game after a somewhat quiet start and helped feed the players who were breaking in front of him
8 Burgzorg: Caused Leeds all kinds of problems down Boro’s left-hand side – displayed impressive composure to turn infield and fire home the second goal
8 Coburn: If his Boro days are drawing to a close, he is going out with a bang – sent Burgzorg clear for the second goal and then fired home the third
Subs:
7 Ayling (for Howson, 56): Was cheered onto the field by all four sides of the ground – but then booed by the home support when he crunched into a challenge and was booked
McCormick (for Engel, 70)
Azaz (for Burgzorg, 70)
(not used): Glover (gk), Hunt, Cartwright, Hackney, Hamilton, Latte Lath.
Man Of The Match: ANFERNEE DIJKSTEEL – Boro’s right-back was in danger of turning into peak Cafu as he tore forward down the right-hand side.
