MIDDLESBROUGH remain in talks with Bristol City over transfer target Tommy Conway amid a fresh twist, with Burnley now said to be in swap deal discussions with the Robins.
Boro's bid for Conway is still on the table, but Bristol City are said to want the offer restructured.
Burnley have been interested in Conway all summer and made enquiries but their valuation of the striker didn't match Bristol City's. The Clarets then tried to tempt City with an exchange of players, and while initial talks came to nothing, the two clubs are now in discussions over a swap deal including Burnley pair Scott Twine and Luke McNally.
After spending the second half of last season on loan at Ashton Gate, City prioritised the permanent capture of Twine this summer and the forward is said to want the move.
What isn't clear at this stage is Conway's preference on his next move, but he'd face a lot more competition at Burnley, who aren't short of centre-forwards.
The 21-year-old Scotland international is into the final 12 months of his contract and has rejected offers of an extension, leaving City to reluctantly accept they'll have to cash in this summer.
Boro have closely monitored Conway's situation and made a move earlier this week, with talks between the clubs continuing. But City sources claim the Robins are now also in ongoing dialogue with Burnley.
Due to his age and the fact he's been top scorer at Ashton Gate for the last two seasons, City feel Conway is worth more than Twine, hence the push to also include defender McNally in the swap deal.
The 24-year-old joined Burnley two summers ago but has spent the last 18 months on loan in the Championship with Coventry and Stoke City.
Scott Parker has set about trying to put his own touch on the Burnley squad as the Clarets aim to bounce back at the first time of asking after last season's Premier League relegation.

Boro boss Carrick was reluctant to give too much away when quizzed on Conway after Wednesday's friendly draw with Harrogate.
He said: “I can’t really say anything on that. We’ve had a lot of names linked, to be honest, and at this stage, you know me, I’m not going to talk about it.
“We’ve got a really good squad. We feel like we’ve got a good, balanced squad at the moment, so we’re not desperately, desperately needing anything major.
“That said though, there’s always something happening, and we’ll be looking to add to the squad for sure. But at this stage, I haven’t got any more information to give.”
