SIR Michael Stoute has made no secret of the fact that he is nearing the end of his career but the legendary trainer remains a trainer to be feared wherever he runs his horses.

And the 78-year-old Newmarket handler would be a popular winner of the feature race of Redcar’s Wednesday meeting – the Woodsmith Construction Group Fillies’ Handicap – with Red Pixie.

Juddmonte’s three-year-old daughter of Kingman was staying on well over seven furlongs when she won on her fourth outing at Carlisle in June. Hooded for the first time, she now steps up to a mile under PJ McDonald (pictured below) and there’s surely more to come.

Julie Camacho’s Zapphire, a short-head second at Beverley last time, looks the danger with seven-pound claimer Tom Kiely-Marshall retaining the ride.

Redcar’s midweek card gets underway at 2.05pm with the Racing TV Free Trial British EBF Novice Stakes for two-year-olds, and the market is likely to be the best guide with debutantes from big stables in the firing line.

One of the attractions for Redcar racegoers is the chance to see potential stars of the future in the early stages of their careers and one of the newcomers is Diablo Rojo, who cost 325,000 guineas as a yearling.

The Pinatubo cold is trained at AMO Racing’s training centre in Lambourn by former Brazilian jockey Raphael Freire, who had his first British winner with Li Ban at Thirsk last week, and David Egan makes the journey north for the ride.

Kevin Ryan’s Cape Sovereign, a promising fourth of seven first time out at Hamilton at the start of the month, looks the pick of those with racecourse experience. Market confidence in Karl Burke’s newcomer Arabian Angel, a 115,000 guineas foal by Dark Angel, will also be worth noting.

Cieren Fallon heads to Redcar for one booked ride on newcomer Cognisance, a daughter of the great Sea The Stars, for William Haggas in the Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

She may well face strong competition from the more experienced Star of Kilfrush, trained at Hambleton by Kevin Ryan, who came within a neck of upsetting Shadwell Estate’s 1-4 favourite, Fayqa at Thirsk in June.

Eeetee has won at Redcar in the last two seasons when trained by David O’Meara, and the gelding is an interesting proposition back at the seaside track for the Free Racing TV At racingtv.com/freetrial Handicap.

Now trained at Middleham by John Wainwright, Eeetee was on a mark of 81 for last year’s Redcar win and he’s now dropped to 76, with Andrew Breslin also claiming three pounds.

Eeetee looked to be coming into form when a good third of 11 at Ayr last time, and his best runs have come on good to firm – conditions he’s almost certain to encounter at Redcar.

Rhys Elliott is an up-and-coming name amongst the apprentice ranks, with nine wins going into this week, and he has another good ride on Stormy Pearl in the Visit racingtv.com Handicap.

Retained by Michael Dods, Elliott is getting plenty of rides from outside yards, and the rider again teams up with County Durham trainer David Thompson.

Elliott was on board Stormy Pearl when the filly dead-heated at Hamilton this month and they look the combination to beat on a mark of just 2lbs higher.

The meeting ends with the AJA Novice Flat Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap. Star of St James, trained at Newark by Ivan Furtado, has been second three times in a row and deserves to get his head in front under Stephanie Dorey, who had her first winner at Epsom this month.
