EDDIE Howe wants to keep Miguel Almiron at Newcastle United this summer.

The winger is wanted by clubs in Saudi, as was the case in January, but the Paraguayan remains part of Howe's Newcastle plans for the coming season.

Almiron reported back for pre-season at the end of this week but wasn't involved in Saturday's friendly at Hull City. He will, however, be part of the squad travelling to Japan on Sunday, with Howe hoping the 30-year-old can get some match minutes under his belt during the trip.

Howe has identified the capture of a right-winger as a priority this summer, but with the head coach admitting on Saturday that no new signings are close as things stand, he's reluctant to lose a key man.

"Miggy's been unbelievable for Newcastle, long before I came, but also since I've been here he's been an absolutely pivotal player, a key player," said Howe.

"We love him, we love his personality, we love working with him. He's come back with a big smile on his face so I'm looking forward to working with him again."

Newcastle will head for Japan on the back of a pleasing 2-0 victory at Hull, with Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy getting the goals.

Howe said: "I thought it was a good game, it was a tough game. We knew it was going to be coming here, they're slightly ahead of us physically but very different tactically to most teams you see. A lot of interesting things and it took us 10 minutes to get to grips with it.

"I thought once we did, the first half especially we played very well. The second half was bitty with all the changes.

"The front three all looked good: Alex, Harvey and Jacob. Several good moments for them. The second goal was really good. Nick's save, at a time when it's 1-0 and the game is in the balance, that's what he's done for us since he's been here. He's been a giant for us. It was a magnificent save."
