NEWCASTLE UNITED coach Ben Dawson has left the club to become part of Steve Cooper’s new-look backroom team at Leicester City.
Dawson has spent a decade as part of the backroom set-up at Newcastle, but has opted to leave in order to work at the King Power Stadium in the wake of Leicester’s promotion back to the Premier League last season.
The respected coach initially joined Newcastle’s academy as a professional development coach in 2014 and has also served as Under-21s lead coach and academy head of coaching. He became first-team development coach in 2021, supporting the club's talent pathway into the men's senior squad.
Steve Harper, Newcastle's academy director, said: “Ben has been an important part of the academy here for over a decade and has played a key role in the development of many players.
“I'm delighted that Ben has the opportunity to work in the first team at Leicester City. This development is testament to his work ethic and to the excellent coach development work at our academy, supported by Ben, Neil Winskill and, more recently, Jack Ross.
