DANNY Tudhope has been one of the main jockeys to follow at Redcar in recent seasons and he could again be the star performer on Circus Family Fun Day on Sunday.
Redcar stages an attractive eight-race card as part of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival, and Tudhope is booked to ride Cerulean Bay in the feature race of the day.
The Sky Bet Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap is over a mile and Tudhope is booked to ride the gelding for Helmsley trainer David O’Meara.
The three-year-old recorded a career-best performance to be second at Ascot last week and is clearly in good form, although punters should note that he’s also entered at Haydock on Saturday.
The meeting kicks off with the prolific Tudhope and O’Meara combination teaming up with Brastias, in the colours of Elwick Stud, for Division One of the Racing TV Free Trial EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes.
The colt showed promise on his debut at Haydock in June but disappointed when odds-on at Newcastle next time. The betting that day suggests he has the ability, so it’s worth giving him another chance.
Hollie Doyle makes another welcome trip to Redcar and looks to have a good chance in Division Two on What’s She At, trained at Lambourn by Archie Watson.
The filly shaped well to be second on her debut at Newcastle and looks set for a battle with Newmarket raider Ezdaan, ridden by the in-form Connor Beasley and trained by John Butler. The colt made a promising start to be fourth at Ayr a fortnight ago.
Speaking at the press launch of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival at Thirsk during the week, Sean Quinn reported that Sir Garfield is in good form at home, and the gelding lines up under Jason Hart for the Sky Bet Supporting Matt Hampson Foundation Handicap.
Sir Garfield stepped up on previous form to win at Catterick 12 days ago and will be fancied to defy a 5lbs penalty. He’s also entered at Catterick on Wednesday and Quinn said he could be in for a busy festival.
North Yorkshire trainer Craig Lidster will fancy his chances with Longhaired General in the Margaret Jefferson Memorial Restricted Maiden Stakes. The Kessaar gelding was an excellent second at Thirsk last time and can go one better under the ever-reliable Tom Eaves.
Michael Dods has Motawaazy on a dangerous mark in the Michael Hunter Handicap. The last time the gelding won – at Newcastle at the end of 2022 – he was off a mark of 72. He’s now way down on 52 and looked like a horse coming back to form when fifth at Thirsk last time. Connor Beasley rides.
Steve Brown, husband and assistant to Julie Camacho, highlighted Gregorianna as an improving filly when he spoke to racing journalists at the festival launch at Thirsk. She ran her best race by far when third at Newcastle last time and steps up in trip for the Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Handicap under Ryan Sexton. Brown described her as “a work in progress” but she appeals each-way if the expected progress continues.
The meeting ends with the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Handicap and the pick on form looks to be Tim Easterby’s Gibside, ridden by Alexander Fielding. Beaten only half a length in a higher grade at Chester last time, he can defy top weight.
