Head coach Regis Le Bris is looking forward to Sunderland's hardest test of pre-season so far after splitting his squad for the friendlies against South Shields and Gateshead.

The Black Cats will be without Dan Ballard, Jenson Seelt and Niall Huggins, while Nectar Triantis and Abdoullah Ba are also expected to be missing.

Ballard was this week ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury, while Seelt and Huggins are longer-term absentees, though have travelled to Spain to continue their rehabilitation.

Ba and Triantis both missed the friendly double header last weekend but are expected to be back in action in the next few weeks.
