STEVE Watson is hoping for more of the same tonight when his Darlington side continue their preparations for the coming season with a trip to Hebburn Town.

Watson took plenty of positives from Friday night's 5-0 win at Bishop Auckland, a decent way for Quakers to start their pre-season campaign.

Ex-Newcastle United forward Michael Ndiweni is expected to be given another chance to impress after scoring against Bishop Auckland, with Watson planning to take another look at Darlington's trialists tonight (7.45pm kick-off) before starting the process of whittling down his squad for the start of the National League North campaign.

Ndiweni is a free agent having left Newcastle earlier this summer, while former Hartlepool youngster Archie Small also featured at Bishop Auckland.

Watson will be hoping summer signing Jack Maskell can build on his bright start, with the striker getting off the mark for Quakers in his first appearance for the club after arriving from Dunston.

There was also a solid start for Pete Jameson, who kept a clean sheet in his opening game. Watson believes Darlington will have the best keeper in the league this season after the capture of the former Harrogate and York stopper.

Cedric Main was also on the scoresheet at Bishop Auckland last time out and Cameron Salkeld chipped in with a couple.

Tonight's hosts Hebburn won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division last season but have endured a tough start to their summer with heavy defeats to Dumbarton and Gateshead. Boss Daniel Moore is expecting another "very tough" night against Darlington.

He said: "I think they'll have ambitions of getting out of that league. It's what we get these teams for, to go through the mill a little bit, to hurt, to run.

"We left the weekend free intentionally as we'd only had three training sessions and the games, so we'd not really worked on shapes or what we wanted individuals to do. That's what we're going to do over the next couple of weeks and I think it'll all start coming together."

Tickets for tonight's game at Hebburn Sports Ground are priced at £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for Under-16s. Admission is free for Under-12s. Tickets can be bought online before noon today but are also available on the turnstiles, with fans able to pay by cash or card.
