CELTIC'S search for a new number one goalkeeper looks set to conclude with the capture of Kasper Schmeichel - with the Scottish champions having previously been linked with Newcastle's Martin Dubravka and Middlesbrough's Tom Glover.

Schmeichel is a free agent after leaving Anderlecht and is set to reunite with his former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead.

A new goalkeeper was Celtic's top priority this summer after Joe Hart's retirement, with Glover linked late last season and the Dubravka speculation emerging last month.

The future still remains unclear for both Glover and Dubravka, with Middlesbrough and Newcastle both well stocked between the posts and the duo looking likely to struggle for action next term as things stand.

Schmeichel will finalise his move to Celtic this week and the former Darlington loanee looks like being joined by Aston Villa's Viljami Sinisalo, with the 22-year-old set to battle for the gloves in Glasgow.

Dubravka has admitted he doesn't know what his future holds after the Newcastle arrivals of Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy. Loris Karius left the club earlier this summer but the Magpies also have Mark Gillespie on their books. Nick Pope will be No.1 next season

"I have no idea," said Dubravka when quizzed on his position and Newcastle future during the European Championships, where he was representing Slovakia.

"I need to speak with the manager first. What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. It is difficult for me, because I have been focussed on my job with the national team."

As for Glover at Middlesbrough, he was deputy last season with Seny Dieng having established himself as Michael Carrick's first choice keeper. Glover did have a spell in the side during the winter but Dieng won back the gloves after returning from injury.

Dieng is expected to be No.1 again this coming season but Sol Brynn and Zach Hemming have returned this summer after impressive loan spells and are pushing Glover for the role of deputy.

Brynn and Hemming, both highly rated, have two years left on their current contracts. With Jamie Jones expected to sign a new contract and be third choice again next season, Boro will have transfer decisions to make on two of Glover, Brynn and Hemming, depending who gets the nod as back-up this season.
