NEWCASTLE UNITED will round off their pre-season programme with the Sela Weekender at St James' Park.

Eddie Howe's side will face Champions League sides Girona and Stade Brestois in two games in the space of two days in August.

The weekend of pre-season action will also see Becky Langley's Newcastle Women side play a glamour friendly game of their own.

The Sela Weekender will begin on the evening of Friday, August 9 with Newcastle taking on La Liga side Girona (7.30pm).

The following day will see the return of the Sela Cup, with a new format seeing Newcastle's women's and men's teams both in action on the same day.

Building on last season's promotion campaign, Newcastle Women will continue their preparations for life in the Barclays Women's Championship by challenging a soon-to-be-confirmed opponent for the first women’s Sela Cup trophy on Saturday, August 10 (1pm).

Newcastle's men's side will then continue their preparations for the new season by taking on French Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois for the right to lift the Sela Cup, which they claimed last summer (4pm).

Newcastle chief executive, Darren Eales, said: “We’re excited that both our men’s and women’s squads will make their return to St. James’ Park for a two-day festival of football. It will give fans the chance to support preparations for a huge 2024-25 campaign.

"Welcoming Champions League calibre opponents reinforces the draw of Newcastle United across the top level of European football, and I’m sure each visiting club will play their part in creating a great weekend.

"We would once again like to thank our partners Sela for their support and expertise which will ensure that The Sela Weekender is an event to remember for fans of every club involved."
