SUNDERLAND won't be signing Callum Styles on a permanent transfer from Barnsley this summer.
The versatile midfielder joined the Black Cats in the January transfer window, with Sunderland having the option to make the deal permanent, but it's now been confirmed the Hungary international is returning to his League One parent club.
Styles made 12 appearances in the second half of last season after a bout of appendicitis delayed his start to life on Wearside.
Playing predominantly as a left-wing back in a back five or at left-back in a four man defence, Styles struggled to make an impact as the Black Cats' form took a nosedive in 2024.

He said: "As we continue to plan for the new season, we have decided not to take the option in Callum’s loan agreement and therefore his time with us has concluded.
"Callum’s attitude and application was first class throughout his time at the club and we wish him well for the future."
Sunderland have been active in the first week of the summer transfer window, bringing in free agent Simon Moore to the Stadium of Light, while fellow goalkeepers Nathan Bishop and Alex Bass have both departed.
Chris Rigg looks set to sign his first professional contract with the club, after agreeing a three-year deal with the Black Cats.
