MIDDLESBROUGH play Leeds United in what is the pick of the ties in the Carabao Cup first round draw.
The two promotion hopefuls will go head to head at Elland Road in the first week of the season, with the games scheduled to take place in the week commencing Monday, August 12.
Sunderland, meanwhile, also have an all-Championship tie. They travel to face league rivals Preston North End at Deepdale.

Boro made it to the semi-finals of the League Cup last season, where they were knocked out by Chelsea - but only after beating the Blues at the Riverside.
