SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Nathan Bishop is set to become the second departure from the club as the Black Cats look to revamp their goalkeeping department this summer.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is closing in on a move to League One side Wycombe Wanderers on a season-long loan.

The Wearsiders are willing to allow the former Manchester United goalkeeper leave the club in order to gain some regular first-team football after just two senior appearances since his move to the Stadium of Light last summer.

Bishop has two years remaining on his contract and played second fiddle to Anthony Patterson last term.

The arrival of former Sheffield United and Coventry City goalkeeper Simon Moore has created some wriggle room in the goalkeeping department, bringing some much needed experience to a young squad.

The departure of fellow goalkeeper Alex Bass was confirmed last week, signing for League Two side Notts County after spending last season on loan with AFC Wimbledon.

Like Bass, Sunderland are hopeful a season of regular football under his belt will be the best course of action for Bishop heading into the final year of his contract where they'll reassess his situation.

The Black Cats have both highly rated Adam Richardson and Matty Young coming through the academy and will likely give both an opportunity to impress with the first-team in pre-season.

The latter of the duo spent last season on loan with National League North side Darlington and has caught the eye of a number of National League and EFL clubs, keen on a loan move this summer.

Sunderland have also been linked with a move for young Australian goalkeeper Robert Cook, with the Perth Glory youngster attracting attention down under.
