FORMER Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson has joined Stoke City on a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old Teessider was a free agent following his exit from Norwich at the end of last season, having played 40 times in the Championship last season.

Gibson said on the club website: “Stoke City is a fantastic club, with lots of history, huge stature and I am looking forward to getting to work.”

Gibson follows goalkeeper Viktor Johansson through the door at the Potters following the Sweden international’s £1m-plus move from Rotherham.

Having graduated through the academy at Rockliffe Park, Gibson, who is the nephew of Boro chairman Steve, made 203 senior appearances for his hometown club.
