BRUNO GUIMARAES insists he is “very happy” at Newcastle United, but admits his contractual situation and the constraints of the Premier League’s FFP rules mean his future remains uncertain.

While Guimaraes is contracted to St James’ Park to 2028, the terms of his deal include a release clause that means he can leave if another club bids £100m before June 30.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris St Germain have all been linked with a possible move for the midfielder, who started all bar one of Newcastle’s Premier League matches last season.

Losing the Brazilian would be a massive blow to Newcastle, but they would effectively be powerless if a club triggered the release clause and Guimaraes decided he wanted to leave Tyneside.

The 26-year-old is currently on international duty with Brazil, preparing for the Copa America, and was asked about his club future in an interview with TNT Sports.

He spelled out his love for Newcastle, but also conceded that he is in a position where his fate could largely be taken out of his hands.

“My future? To be honest, is in God’s hands,” said Guimaraes. “I have a contract with Newcastle, I’m very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me, I know everything I’ve been doing for the club. In short, I have a contract, I’m happy.

“I don’t know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy.

“Obviously, it’s very nice to have your name linked with big clubs, it shows that I’m doing my job well, but I’m not worried about it at all. As I said, I’m happy at the club. I’m very happy, so let’s see what happens. I’m not in any hurry, I’m happy, and it’s up to God, let’s see what happens.”

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, and feels his career has jumped to another level since he swapped Ligue 1 for the Premier League, even if last season did not quite go to plan for the Magpies.

“I think I’m at my best moment in my personal life, in my professional life, it all helps a lot, it’s all connected,” he said. “I think Newcastle is the club that, with all due respect to Lyon, I feel most at home at in Europe. I’m an idol of the fans, I get a lot of respect from everyone.

“I think it all worked out very well, right? It was a good season, even though the club had a lot of injuries, a lot of suspensions. In short, I think it was a great season for me, one that will stay in my memory, and I hope to have more seasons like that.”
