WEST HAM remain hopeful of striking a deal to keep Sunderland target Divin Mubama at the club this summer.

The 19-year-old striker is out of contract and looked set to leave the London Stadium after talks over a new deal broke down.

Sunderland are one of several clubs monitoring the teenager's situation and would be ready to make a move if, as previously expected, Mubama was to leave West Ham on a free this summer.

However, the Premier League club - who recently appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new boss - are still trying to come to an agreement with Mubama over an extension.

West Ham say they "remain in talks regarding a potential new contract".

Mubama has been at West Ham for more than a decade having first joined the academy when he was just eight. He's worked his way through the age groups and has made 18 first team appearances, featuring in the Premier League, domestic cup competitions and in Europe.

He enjoyed a breakthrough 2022/23 campaign and was named Mark Noble's Young Hammer of the Year. But he was limited to just five first team appearances in the Premier League this season, the last of which came back in January.

His struggle for game-turn led to interest from elsewhere, with Sunderland first linked in January, alongside West Brom and Everton.

The Black Cats have continued to track the striker's situation.

Sunderland have had success with young talent from West Ham, with Aji Alese and Pierre Ekwah both leaving the Hammers for Wearside and establishing themselves as key first team figures at the Stadium of Light.
