VINCENT Kompany's move to become the new boss at Bayern Munich has been confirmed - leaving Burnley searching for a new head coach after their relegation from the Premier League.

The exit of Kompany - who the Clarets backed despite a challenging campaign in the top flight - is a major blow for the promotion hopefuls.

Scott Parker is the early favourite with the bookies to take charge at Turf Moor, ahead of Frank Lampard and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ex-Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has reportedly turned down an approach from the Clarets because of interest from Premier League clubs.

Kompany's exit means there's once again four Championship clubs on the lookout for managers. Wayne Rooney was named as Plymouth's new boss earlier this week but Sunderland, Hull and Norwich remain managerless as things stand, though the Canaries are set to appoint Johannes Hoff Thorup.

There could yet be another twist in the Championship manager market, however, with Leicester reportedly eyeing up West Brom's Carlos Corberan. The Foxes are braced for the exit of Enzo Maresca, who is set to join Chelsea, and are said to have identified Corberan as a potential replacement.

One club who won't be on the lookout for a new boss this summer is Leeds United, with chairman Paraag Marathe confirming Daniel Farke will be staying at Elland Road despite missing out on promotion.

Leeds are targeting another tilt at promotion next term, which will also be the aim at Burnley after their relegation.

Their departing boss Kompany has signed a three-year deal at Bayern to replace Thomas Tuchel. Bayern reportedly agreed a compensation fee of £10.2million with the Clarets.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern,” said Kompany.

“It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football.

“As a coach, you have to stand for what you are as a character: I love having the ball, being creative – but we also have to be aggressive and courageous on the pitch.

“I’m now looking forward to the basics: working with the players, building a team. Once the basis is right, success will follow.”

Kompany will manage England captain Harry Kane in Bavaria.

He is tasked with regaining the Bundesliga title after Bayer Leverkusen ended Bayern’s 11-season stranglehold on the German league.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen: “All of us at the club agree that Vincent Kompany is the right coach for FC Bayern and we are very much looking forward to working with him.

“Max Eberl (board member) and Christoph Freund (sporting director) have worked tirelessly and meticulously to find a coach who will lead FC Bayern to success and continue to develop the club with new ideas.

“Vincent Kompany represents exactly the togetherness and team spirit that we need.”
