ANTHONY GORDON will not be travelling to Australia for Newcastle United’s post-season tour – but Eddie Howe expects the winger to be fit for the Euros.

Gordon was not part of the Magpies squad for this afternoon’s season-ending win at Brentford after suffering an Achilles injury in Wednesday’s defeat at Manchester United.

While the whole of the matchday squad at the Gtech Community Stadium will fly to Australia this evening ahead of exhibition matches against Tottenham and an A-League All Stars team, Gordon will be remaining on Tyneside for treatment.

However, while a scan has revealed damage to his Achilles, Howe is confident the winger will recover in time to feature in this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

England boss Gareth Southgate is due to select his provisional squad for the tournament on Tuesday, with Gordon, Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson all hoping to make the cut.

Howe said: “Anthony won’t be going to Australia. He had a scan very soon after the Manchester United game – we don’t think it’s a serious injury, but it’s enough to keep him out of today and Australia.

“I believe everyone who is here today will travel. Unless there are any late twists or turns, I believe it’ll be everyone who is here today, and that is every fit player at the club.”
