NEWCASTLE WOMEN are a step closer to achieving Amanda Staveley’s dream of a place in the Women’s Super League after securing promotion to the Championship with a 10-0 rout of Huddersfield.
The win in front of a crowd of 7,382 at Kingston Park this afternoon clinched the Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title and back-to-back promotions for Becky Langley’s side.
Emma Kelly, Beth Lumsden and Katie Barker each scored twice with further goals from Charlotte Potts and substitutes Jas McQuade, Kacie Elson and Georgia Gibson completing the job in style.
Staveley has thrown her weight behind the Magpies’ women’s team since her Saudi-backed consortium took charge at St James’ Park, bringing the club back in-house two seasons ago and then providing the support for Langley and her players to go full-time last summer, the first third-tier side to do so.
