How Middlesbrough's players rated in the 1-1 draw at Southampton:
9 Dieng: Outstanding in the second half when he made a string of crucial saves.
6 Ayling: Difficult start, should have stopped cross for goal but stood up to difficult challenge.
7 Howson: Error for the first goal but showed his character and experience to recover and perform superbly in unfamiliar position.
8 Clarke: Outstanding at the heart of the defence, particularly in the second half. Made a superb late block to deny Armstrong shortly before goal.
5 Engel: Decision making and final ball poor in the first half when he repeatedly got into promising positions. Stuck to his task defensively in the second half.
6 Barlaser: Spent much of the first half chasing when Southampton were dominating possession. Worked hard.
6 O’Brien: Tough first half but tidy and positive in possession. Got better as game went on.
7 Jones: Threat on the right on the break throughout. Final ball frustrating at times but speed troubled Southampton. Late injury a worry.
7 Azaz: Provided link between midfield and attack and found pockets of space. Went close in first half when he hit the post.
5 Greenwood: Largely anonymous again. Just not having enough of an impact on games.
7 Latte Lath: Tireless display, always alive to possibility of openings. Stuck at it and got last minute rewards
