How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Manchester City
MAN CITY (4-2-3-1):
Ortega 6; Walker 7, Dias 7, Akanji 7, Gvardiol 6; Rodri 8, Kovacic 6; SILVA 8, Foden 8, Doku 7 (Bobb 77); Haaland 6 (Alvarez 87).
Subs (not used): Carson (gk), Stones, Ake, Lewis, Grealish, Gomez, Nunes, Alvarez.
NEWCASTLE (5-3-2):
6 Dubravka: Was beaten by two deflections and made a couple of decent saves to keep the score down
5 Murphy: At least tried to get forward down the right, and delivered a decent cross to set up Isak’s chance
4 Lascelles: Didn’t look comfortable on his recall to the starting side, particularly when Doku was running at him
4 Schar: A ragged performance that saw him booked in the first half – couldn’t contain the City attack
4 Botman: Afforded City’s forwards far too much room and deflected the second goal past Dubravka
4 Burn: Failed to close down Silva for both of City’s goals and continues to look badly out of form
4 Longstaff: Wanted far too many touches when receiving the ball and was repeatedly swamped by the City midfield
6 GUIMARAES: The pick of the Newcastle side as he tried to drive his side forward – made a couple of eye-catching breaks
4 Willock: Didn’t seem to know what he was meant to be doing defensively, and could have done much better for both goals
4 Gordon: Started in an attacking role as part of a front two but didn’t ask any questions of the City defence
5 Isak: Forced Ortega into a smart first-half save, but wasted a good opportunity after the break with a poor first touch
Subs:
6 Almiron (for Gordon, 61): Added some energy to Newcastle’s play in the final half-hour – should probably have started
6 Hall (for Burn, 61): His touch was more assured than most of his fellow defenders – is surely worth trying in the starting side
5 Anderson (for Willock, 61): Covered a fair amount of ground during his time on the field
5 Miley (for Longstaff, 61): Couldn’t change the course of the game in the final half-hour
Krafth (for Botman, 83)
(not used): Karius (gk), Dummett, Ritchie, Targett.
Man Of The Match: BERNARDO SILVA – His goals might have been deflected, but he still found space seemingly at will in the final third.
