MICHAEL Carrick says it's too early to know the severity of Marcus Forss' hamstring injury, though admits the forward is now unlikely to link up with Finland for the international break.
Finland face Wales in a European Championships qualifier this Thursday but Forss is now unlikely to be involved after going down injured in the first half of Middlesbrough's 0-0 draw with Blackburn.
Carrick is hoping that the decision to immediately replace the forward will mean he hasn't suffered any serious damage.
He will now be assessed in the coming days, as will Rav van den Berg, who suffered a twisted knee in the final stages of Tuesday's 1-0 win at Birmingham City and missed the Blackburn game.
The defender isn't joining up with Holland's Under-21s and Boro are now awaiting scan results, with Carrick admitting that at this stage he's unsure of the severity of the injury.

On Forss, Carrick said: "At this stage I don't know to be honest. Hopefully he's not too bad.
"He came off before there was any damage but at this stage we don't know. We'll assess him. The doc and the physios will make that call but it's probably unlikely he'll go away."
And on van den Berg, Carrick explained: "Rav twisted his knee in the last few minutes at Birmingham.
"We gave him a couple of days to see how it settles down but he wasn't ready for today.
"We'll have to assess how bad it is with scans and things over the next few days. Hopefully it won't be too bad but at this stage we're not too sure."
