FORMER Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has returned to management after being appointed Cambridge United head coach.
Monk has signed a deal with the League One club until the summer of 2026 to replace Neil Harris, who left in shock fashion last month to take over at Millwall.
Barry Corr had stepped up on a caretaker basis after Harris’ departure but oversaw three defeats and Monk will aim to lead Cambridge away from the bottom four, with his first match at home to Northampton on Saturday.
This is Monk’s first job since he left Sheffield Wednesday in 2020 after previous spells with Boro, Birmingham, Leeds and Swansea.
Cambridge majority owner Paul Barry told the official club website: “We are very pleased to welcome Garry as our next head coach.
“He is a coach of high pedigree, has managed at the top level and impressed us all with his leadership skills, clarity of thinking and his analysis of Cambridge United – both the squad and the club.
“Although he has had opportunities to get back into the game over recent times, he has been waiting for the right one. Like us, he sees this as a project and we are pleased he has decided to join us on the journey ahead.”
