6 Patterson: Good first half save to deny Greenwood, who he wiped out in the second half and was fortunate Boro forward was onside.
7 Hume: Effective in the first half, when he had room to roam. Was pinned back after the break.
6 Ballard: Always looked vulnerable to ball in behind.
6 O’Nien: Engaging battle with Greenwood.
7 Hjelde: Really solid debut. Could solve what has been problem position.
6 Neil: Tireless in midfield. Tidy in first half but Black Cats lost control after the break until equaliser.
7 Ba: A livewire in the first half and troubled Engel. Wasteful in front of goal but a threat throughout.
6 Ekwah: Consistency remains the challenge for midfielder.
6 Bellingham: Helped to knit things together in first half. Quiet after the break.
7 Clarke: Other than a couple of first half flashes was contained by Boro – but big players come up with big moments and Clarke came to life late on. Made goal and led Sunderland’s push for a winner.
5 Burstow: Anonymous. Hardly got a kick. Disappointing after last week’s breakthrough.
