SUNDERLAND have completed the signing of versatile Callum Styles, who joins on loan until the end of the season with the Black Cats then having the option to make the deal permanent.
Kristjaan Speakman describes Styles - who joins from League One Barnsley - as an "interesting player", who will be able to play in a number of roles for Michael Beale's side.
The 23-year-old won't be available to make his debut against Middlesbrough on Sunday having recently undergone surgery to remove his appendix, but Sunderland say Styles is expected to make an "imminent" return.

The Hungary international arrives with plenty of experience, having made 222 senior appearances. He's equally as comfortable playing in midfield, at left-back or at wing-back.
Speakman said: “Callum is an interesting player, who has the ability to play on the left side of central midfield or slightly wider in a full back or wing back role, so we feel his quality and flexibility will be a real benefit to us throughout the remainder of the season.
"Having reached an agreement in principle last week, we had an unavoidable delay due to Callum’s illness, but after reviewing his progress, we are now delighted that he’s here and we look forward to his imminent return to action.”
