How did the players fare in Newcastle United’s 3-1 win at Aston Villa?
ASTON VILLA (4-4-2):
Martinez 5; Cash 5, Konsa 4, Lenglet 4, Moreno 4; McGINN 6, Kamara 4 (Ramsey 62, 4), Luiz 4, Tielemans 4 (Zaniolo 62, 3); Diaby 4 (Bailey 62, 5), Watkins 5.
Subs (not used): Olsen (gk), Wright (gk), Carlos, Chambers, Kesler-Hayden, Iroegbunam.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
8 Dubravka: Made a crucial second-half save from Cash and didn’t let his injury issues knock him off his stride
8 Trippier: Back to something close to his best as he defended resolutely and helped set up the opening two goals
9 SCHAR: Scored two goals in the space of four minutes and also made a goalline clearance – a brilliant display
8 Botman: Kept the Villa attack quiet for most of the evening and used the ball to spark Newcastle attacks
7 Burn: Didn’t allow the overlapping Cash to get any joy down the Villa right, with his physicality helping Newcastle keep Villa at bay
7 Longstaff: Never stopped running at the heart of midfield and should have added a fourth goal with a shot that was saved
8 Guimaraes: Is getting back to the standards he was setting last season – dominated the central area for much of the game
7 Miley: Was livelier than he had been at Fulham at the weekend – broke effectively down the Villa left
7 Murphy: Stretched the Villa defence on a number of occasions, although was perhaps somewhat fortunate that Moreno turned his mishit into the goal
6 Isak: Started brightly, and came close with a shot that was curled wide, but his injury curse struck again before the break
8 Gordon: Ran Villa ragged playing down the left in the first half and continued to carry a threat when switched up front
Subs:
7 Almiron (for Isak, 43): Proved an extremely effective substitute, breaking down the left to set up the third goal
Livramento (for Miley, 75)
Krafth (for Gordon, 90+9)
(not used): Karius (gk), Dummett, Hall, Ritchie, Hernes, White.
Man Of The Match: FABIAN SCHAR – The Swiss centre-half scored two goals, delivered a series of excellent long passes and also came up with a second-half goalline clearance.
