MIDDLESBROUGH’S Hayden Coulson has joined Blackpool until the end of the season, with the defender telling of how the loan switch is a “great move for a number of reasons”.

Coulson looked set to leave Boro last summer but signed a new contract during the final stages of a loan spell with Aberdeen and returned to Teesside with an opportunity to force his way back into the first team.

But the 25-year-old hasn’t featured in the Championship since the second weekend of the season and was pushed down the pecking order by the arrivals of Lukas Engel and Alex Bangura.

"This is a great move and I'm delighted to be here,” said Coulson after finalising his switch to the League One promotion chasers.

"I think this move is right for me for a number of reasons. I want to play football and play for a good team who are fighting at the top end of the division. I spoke to the gaffer at length and it seemed to fit really well with everything he was telling me about the club and the group here.

"I'm looking forward to being here and can't wait to get started.
