POLICE have confirmed five people were arrested after sparking a security alert at Newcastle’s St James’ Park as the club hosted Champions League rivals Borussia Dortmund.
A group of teenagers was detained on suspicion of burglary on October 25 after being challenged by staff inside the stadium and later released without charge.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “During the policing operation for the Champions League match between Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, October 25, five males were arrested inside St James’ Park on suspicion of burglary.

“All five males, who were aged between 16 and 18, were released from custody and will face no further action.”
Newcastle, who were playing in European football’s premier club competition for the first time in 20 years and lost the game 1-0 to Felix Nmecha’s first-half goal, have not commented on the incident.
