MIKE Dodds expects to still be in charge of Sunderland for Tuesday's visit of Leeds United, as interviews with candidates continue but with no appointment imminent as things stand.

Sunderland's performance in the 2-1 win over West Brom in Dodds' first game in caretaker charge will put club bosses at ease, with the decision makers prioritising the right appointment rather than a quick one.

The interview process is underway and will continue in the coming days, with Dodds again set to be in the dugout on Tuesday night.

"As far as I’m aware I’m in charge on Tuesday, nobody has told me otherwise," said Dodds.

"I will stick to my plan until someone else tells me otherwise."

Dodds is comfortable in his current role.

He said: "I am enjoying it. The only difference for me is this (speaking to the media). I mean that respectfully to whoever has worked at the football club previously. The only real difference is sitting here and being on the touchline a lot more.

"But I always enjoy working with this group and coming up with a plan to hurt the opposition and I enjoy being on the grass working to improve the players. It's a hobby and I'm really fortunate to get paid at the same time."

Dodds lost both games during his previous stint as caretaker boss in 2022 but banished those memories with deserved success against West Brom.

Dan Ballard and Dan Neil scored second half goals before Brandon Thomas-Asante's late consolation.

Dodds said: "I'm a perfectionist and I want to have complete control of the game, I didn't like elements of the first half where they had too much control of the ball, albeit without hurting us too much.

"I thought we controlled large spells of the second half. I didn't like the goal we conceded and we'll talk about that in the morning, but all in all I'm really proud. It's a huge win against a really good team in good form."
