DARLINGTON are set for a welcome boost, with midfielder Ben Liddle close to a return after an eight-game absence.
Liddle hasn't played for Quakers since the defeat to King's Lynn in mid-October after suffering an ankle injury in training, but Darlington's lead physio Nathan Liddle has now revealed the 25-year-old's return is "imminent".
It's not clear whether Liddle will feature at Southport this weekend, but the fact he'll be back in time for the crucial festive period is a huge boost for Josh Gowling and his struggling side.
"Ben sustained an ankle injury in training five weeks ago but he's made significant progress and last week he joined back in training ahead of schedule," said physio Liddle.
"He will be available for selection imminently."

Jordan Windass, Mitchell Curry and Jake Lawlor aren't as far down the line with their rehab.
Windass has been missing since early this month with a hamstring injury, Lawlor hurt his shoulder in the recent hammering at Chorley, while striker Curry hasn't played since early last month after suffering what Liddle described as a "freak injury" in training, dislocating his elbow.
"He has been reviewed by a leading consultant who advised that no surgery is required," said Liddle of Curry.
"Mitch is working hard to build his fitness up whilst also strengthening his elbow to be ready to train over the next couple of weeks."
Liddle added: "Jordan (Windass) sustained a hamstring injury during training three weeks ago.
"He is currently working hard in his rehab and is performing running drills to build up his fitness. He will be integrating into training over the next couple of weeks.
"Jake (Lawlor) was injured during a heavy fall against Chorley, suffering damage to his left shoulder.
"Despite some significant bruising and discomfort, Jake is progressing well and will continue to build up his fitness whilst the shoulder heals with a view to being back involved before Christmas."
