MORGAN Rogers believes he's starting to show what he's capable of at Middlesbrough and says there's even more to come, with the former Manchester City forward telling of his desire to star on Teesside.

Rogers has shown flashes of his quality since arriving from City in the summer but is yet to nail down a place in Michael Carrick's starting XI.

The 21-year-old did his chances no harm at Exeter City on Tuesday night, scoring a stunning equaliser and winning the penalty that was dispatched by Emmanuel Latte Lath as Boro booked their spot in the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

There's no questioning the talent of a player who Manchester City signed from West Brom when he was just 17, but Rogers is still relatively inexperienced and Boro were always willing to be patient with the versatile forward.

Rogers hasn't started a league game for Boro since the defeat to QPR in early September but he's been a key player in the cup games and is pushing for a start on the back of Tuesday's displays and some eye-catching recent cameos.

And the player himself believes he's starting to hit his stride.

“I feel like I’m getting better and better after every game and every training session," he said,

"I’m learning from all the players and learning off all the coaching staff, and that’s all I can do. Obviously, I want to try and play as many games as possible, so I’ve just got to try and keep pushing myself. I can feel within myself that I’m getting better and better, but I’m not going to stop, I want to keep going. There is more to improve upon and more to learn, so that’s what I’ll do."

Rogers will do well this season to score a better goal than his stunning strike at St James Park.

He said: “It was nice to see it go in. You work on those things and I’m just really happy it went in, and more importantly, really happy that I could contribute to us winning the game. It was important to just get back in the game. It was one of those strikes where when you hit it you instantly think, ‘This has got a chance’. Luckily, it did go in and I’m really happy."

Boro return to league action on Saturday with another long trip to Plymouth but now have a quarter-final to look forward to the week before Christmas. It's the first time Boro have reached the last eight since 2018, and they have a glorious chance to reach the semi-finals after being handed a draw away at Port Vale, the lowest ranked team left in the competition.

Rogers said: “It’s massive to get to this stage of the competition. Obviously we take it one game at a time, but we’ve been really good in this competition and we’ve had to come to some difficult places. We might have been favourites in them, but you’ve still got to go out there and perform, and I think we’ve done that really well throughout."
