SANDRO TONALI is on the substitutes' bench as Newcastle United host Crystal Palace at St James' Park this afternoon.

Tonali has been named in the Magpies' matchday squad despite his involvement in an ongoing Italian investigation into illegal gambling.

However, Eddie Howe has decided to name the midfielder on the bench rather than select him as part of the starting XI.

Howe has made four changes to the side that kicked off Newcastle's last game before the international break against West Ham.

Joelinton returns from injury, and will line up on the right-hand side of midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff.

Callum Wilson gets the nod to lead the line in attack, with Alexander Isak only on the bench after suffering an injury in the draw with West Ham.

Anthony Gordon returns from suspension to play in a wide-attacking position on the left, with Jacob Murphy preferred to Miguel Almiron on the opposite flank.
