SUNDERLAND are in the running for a notable double after Tony Mowbray and Jack Clarke were both shortlisted for Sky Bet EFL monthly awards.
Mowbray is on a four-man shortlist for the Championship Manager of the Month award for September, while Clarke is one of four players to have been shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Month award for the same month.
Mowbray’s nomination is reward for Sunderland’s impressive form in September, which saw them score at least three goals in each of their victories against Southampton, QPR, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday, three of which came in away matches. The Black Cats also suffered a home defeat to Cardiff City last month.
The nomination said: “Sunderland fans are loving the swashbuckling football that Mowbray is overseeing at the Stadium of Light.”
Mowbray is up against Cardiff’s Erol Bulut, Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Hull City manager Liam Rosenior for the award, which is due to be announced tomorrow morning.

Clarke’s nomination for the Player of the Month award reflects his excellent form throughout September.
The winger scored two goals in the each of the wins at Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday, and also claimed goals in the games against Southampton, when he scored in the first minute, and QPR, when he grabbed an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Clarke’s nomination said: “Six goals in five games for the dazzling Clarke, whose dribbling ability and willingness to beat defenders makes him a constant menace. He showcased delightful footwork and close control in his goals at Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday.”
Clarke is up against Plymouth Argyle midfielder Finn Azaz, Preston defender Liam Lindsay and Leicester City winger Stephy Mavadidi for the September award, with the winner to be decided by a judging panel comprising Sky Sports EFL pundit Don Goodman, EFL chief executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
