TONY MOWBRAY admits “something miraculous” has happened with Jack Clarke to transform the winger into the Championship’s leading goalscorer.
Clarke took his tally for the season to seven as he scored two goals in last night’s 3-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
The winger, who was the subject of a series of failed transfer bids from Burnley in the summer, has been in sensational form in the opening two months of the season, surging down the left-hand side and repeatedly threatening the opposition goal.
Mowbray enjoyed watching his progress in Sunderland’s first team last season, but feels he has kicked on again in the current campaign.
Not, however, that he is wanting to praise the 22-year-old too lavishly as his star continues to rise.
Mowbray said: “I need to keep Jack’s feet on the ground. He's an amazing footballer, working hard for our team and being really positive.

“When I think back to being manager of Blackburn Rovers and Clarke was barely getting a kick against us for Spurs’ Under21s - something miraculous has happened and at times he is unplayable.
“He's full of confidence and the opposition don't know which way he is going. He was a constant threat (against Sheffield Wednesday) and has been all season to every team.”
