NEWCASTLE UNITED and Middlesbrough have both been handed away draws in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
However, the task facing the two North-East sides could hardly be more different with Newcastle heading to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United and Middlesbrough heading to St James’ Park to face League One side Exeter City.
Newcastle’s game against Manchester United is a repeat of last season’s League Cup final, which saw the Magpies suffer a 2-0 defeat at Wembley.
Eddie Howe’s side booked their place in the fourth round with a 1-0 win over Manchester City at St James’ Park this evening, but having seen off the reigning Premier League champions, things will not get much easier in round four.
Middlesbrough have already won three away games in this season’s Carabao Cup, seeing off Huddersfield, Bolton and Bradford, and they will be on their travels again in the fourth round.
Michael Carrick’s side will make the long trip to the South-West to take on an Exeter side who knocked out Premier League Luton last night, and who currently occupy sixth position in the League One table.
The fourth-round matches will take place in the week commencing October 30.
Fourth-round draw: Mansfield v Port Vale, Ipswich v Fulham, Man Utd v NEWCASTLE, Bournemouth v Liverpool, Chelsea v Blackburn, West Ham v Arsenal, Everton v Burnley, Exeter v MIDDLESBROUGH.
