Newcastle United return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on Manchester City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Here are all the details you need to know about Wednesday’s game…

WHERE IS THE GAME TAKING PLACE?

After a hectic week that saw them head to AC Milan’s San Siro and Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane, Newcastle return to home soil as they host Manchester City at St James’ Park.

This is the first time the two sides have met in the League Cup since the 2014-15 season, when goals from Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko earned Newcastle a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

The Magpies recent record over City is far from great, with Newcastle having failed to win any of their last ten matches against Wednesday’s opponents. Their most recent victory over City came in January 2019, when goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie secured a 2-1 success on Tyneside.

WHAT TIME IS KICK-OFF?

Wednesday’s game kicks off at 8pm.

ARE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE?

There has been no public sale of tickets for Wednesday’s game, with all available tickets going to season-ticket holders and members.

All tickets have been sold, however for cup matches this season, Newcastle are running scheme which allows season-ticket holders signed up to the club’s cup scheme to return their tickets to the club to be resold. This resale is available to members online on a first come, first served basis, with tickets continuing to become available as season-ticket holders put them back on sale.

IS THE GAME BEING TELEVISED OR STREAMED LIVE?

Yes – Wednesday’s game is being broadcast by Sky, and will be available on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels.

There is no domestic streaming of matches in the Carabao Cup.

Radio coverage of Tuesday’s game will be available on BBC Five Live and BBC Radio Newcastle. The Northern Echo’s Dominic Shaw will be at St James’ Park providing a live blog, report, reaction, ratings and analysis via The Northern Echo website.

WHAT IS NEWCASTLE’S LIKELY LINE-UP?

With his side in the middle of a hectic run of matches, Eddie Howe is having to juggle his pack, so it remains to be seen how many changes he opts to make for his side’s first Carabao Cup game of the season.

Harvey Barnes became the latest addition to Newcastle’s injury list when he suffered a foot injury during Sunday’s thrashing over Sheffield United, and he will not be involved against Manchester City. Barnes is facing “months” on the sidelines as a result of his injury setback.

Joe Willock and Joelinton remain unavailable, and while Emil Krafth has been stepping up his training, he is not expected to feature on Wednesday.

Howe could opt to hand a first Newcastle start to Tino Livramento or Lewis Hall, both of whom were substitutes at the weekend, and may select Jamaal Lascelles at centre-half.

Newcastle (possible, 4-3-3): Dubravka; Livramento, Lascelles, Botman, Burn; Tonali, Longstaff, Anderson; Almiron, Isak, Gordon.

HOW ARE MAN CITY SHAPING UP?

Pep Guardiola has a number of selection and injury concerns ahead of his side’s trip to Tyneside in the League Cup.

Rodri is definitely unavailable as he serves the first game of a three-match suspension imposed in the wake of his sending off against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva remain unavailable because of injury, while Mateo Kovacic is unlikely to be risked having only just returned to training following his own setback.

Jack Grealish could start, after having been a substitute at the weekend, while Guardiola must decide whether to rest the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, both of whom have had extremely busy workloads in the last few weeks.

Man City (possible, 4-2-3-1): Ortega; Walker, Ake, Akanji, Lewis; Nunes, Phillips; Gomez, Grealish, Doku; Alvarez.
