JAMIE CHANDLER has surprisingly resigned as Spennymoor Town manager, with Lewis Dickman stepping in to replace him on an interim basis.
Chandler was officially appointed as Moors boss in the summer, succeeding Jason Ainsley, and has overseen a strong start to the National League North season.
However, the former midfielder, who spent seven years as a Spennymoor player after moving from Gateshead, informed the club on Thursday that he did not feel able to combine the responsibilities of the manager’s role with his family life and full-time job.
Following subsequent discussions, it became clear no solution could be found, so Spennymoor officials accepted Chandler’s resignation.
“I would like to thank the club for giving me eight of the best years of my life and providing me with the opportunity and the privilege to be manager,” said Chandler. “There’s no doubt I have made some friends for life in the dressing room at Spennymoor over the years and I would like to thank the players for the efforts they have put in during the past couple of months.
“I have no doubt that this group of players can build on the good work done so far and go on to have a really exciting season – and I will certainly be one of their biggest supporters. This has been a difficult decision for me, but when the dust settles, I would love to get back down to The Brewery Field and cheer the lads on because this Club is in my blood.”
Chandler’s final game in charge was a disappointing FA Cup defeat to Marine in midweek, but Moors head into today’s league game at Buxton sitting fourth in the table, just two points behind leaders Tamworth.
“Jamie will leave the club with his head held high for everything he has achieved with Spennymoor Town as player, coach and manager,” said Moors managing director, Ian Geldard. “His hard work, dedication and professionalism have helped guide us to one of the strongest and most encouraging starts in the club’s history and now we must do that justice by ensuring our next appointment builds on that solid platform.
“I know that I speak on behalf of everyone at the club when I wish him and his family every happiness in the future, especially as he and his partner prepare to welcome their second son.”
