How did the players fare in Newcastle United's goalless draw with AC Milan?
AC MILAN (4-3-3):
Maignan 6 (Sportiello 80); Calabria 6 (Florenzi 46, 6), Thiaw 6, Tomori 7, Hernandez 7; Loftus-Cheek 7 (Musah 72), Krunic 6, Pobega 7 (Reijnders 61, 6); Chukwueze 6 (Pulisic 61, 5), Giroud 6, LEAO 8.
Subs (not used): Mirante (gk), Adil, Jovic, Okafor, Kjaer, Bartesaghi.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
9 POPE: Made seven crucial saves to ensure Newcastle were able to keep a clean sheet and claim a point
7 Trippier: Led by example on the right-hand side, snapping into tackles and calming things down when needed
8 Schar: Battled away throughout against Giroud, winning headers and hacking balls clear from inside the area
8 Botman: Another excellent defensive display from the Dutchman, who stood firm despite a torrent of Milan attacks
7 Burn: Was an important part of Newcastle’s defensive unit, even if the link-up play down Newcastle’s left wasn’t always there
8 Longstaff: The pick of Newcastle’s midfield by a considerable distance – has to do a lot of defensive work for his side
6 Guimaraes: Didn’t seem to know exactly where he was meant to be playing – hasn’t been at his best so far this season
6 Tonali: Was cheered to the rafters by the AC Milan fans, but wasn’t really able to make an impact in the Milan penalty area
6 Murphy: Was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up and didn’t always choose the right option when he had the ball
6 Isak: Did plenty of running, but struggled to hold the ball up and couldn’t create space in the final third
6 Gordon: Had to do an awful lot of tracking back and, as a result, wasn’t able to offer an attacking threat from the left
Subs:
5 Almiron (for Gordon, 62): Added some late energy, but gave the ball away on a couple of occasions as Newcastle looked to attack
5 Wilson (for Murphy, 62): Wasn’t able to change the general course of the game in his half-hour or so on the field
Anderson (for Tonali, 72)
Barnes (for Isak, 90)
(not used): Karius (gk), Harris (gk), Dummett, Hall, Livramento, Targett, Lascelles, L Miley.
Man Of The Match: NICK POPE – Newcastle’s goalkeeper was magnificent as he made save after save to keep AC Milan at bay.
