MIDDLESBROUGH have agreed a deal to sign Leeds United forward Sam Greenwood - and he looks set to be followed through the door by Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.
Both will be season-long loan deals.
Adding a versatile forward has been a priority since Chuba Akpom's move to Ajax, with boss Michael Carrick making clear on several occasions that Boro wouldn't be necessarily looking for a like for like replacement.
Sunderland-born Greenwood is comfortable across the forward line. The versatile 21-year-old can also play in midfield or up-front. He's made 26 league appearances for Leeds since joining from Arsenal three years ago.
He scored 12 goals in 18 appearances for Leeds' Under-21s in the 2020/21 campaign and eight in 17 the following year.

O'Brien, meanwhile, was wanted by Leeds and Premier League newcomers Sheffield United this summer, but Boro are set to win the battle to sign the in-demand midfielder, who was also interesting Coventry City and Ipswich Town.
O'Brien starred as Huddersfield Town reached the Championship play-off final in the 2021/22 season, with Nottingham Forest swooping to sign the midfielder after they won promotion.
The left-footed midfielder was one of 29 Forest signings last summer and struggled for game-time. He was due to join Blackburn Rovers on loan in January but after that deal fell through, he linked up with Wayne Rooney's DC United and impressed in the MLS.
Despite only being 24, O'Brien has already made more than 200 career appearances and will arrive with plenty of Championship experience.
O'Brien will join Jonny Howson, Hayden Hackney and Dan Barlaser in Boro's midfield. Strengthening in that area has been a priority for Boro throughout the summer.
Boro are continuing with their efforts to sign a striker ahead of Friday night's 11pm deadline.
