Newcastle suffered late heartbreak against Liverpool as substitute Darwin Nunez scored a late double. Here's how the players rated:
7 Pope: Had very little to do until the late stages, two brilliant Nunez finishes gave him no chance.
7 Trippier: Linked up well with Almiron, kept Liverpool attack quiet until late on. Jota caused problems from the bench.
7 Schar: Not troubled until the late stages.
8 Botman: Brilliant block to deny Salah. Superb throughout. Hobbled off late on injured, a real worry.
7 Burn: Coped with the Salah threat superbly but Nunez changed the game. Both goals came down Newcastle’s left.
7 Bruno: Won the midfield battle alongside Tonali and Joelinton. Fine balance to the trio.
8 Tonali: Commanding midfield performance. Got better as the game went on and dominated early stages of second half.
8 Joelinton: Energetic and powerful display. Helped set the tempo. Newcastle missed him in late stages.
7 Almiron: Had the better of Robertson. Went close in second half when he hit the post.
7 Isak: Fine centre-forward display. His movement troubled away defenders. Van Dijk saw red for foul on Swedish frontman.
9 Gordon: His best game for Newcastle. Gave Alexander-Arnold a nightmare afternoon. Looked threatening every time he got the ball. He was missed after he was replaced with 18 minutes to play.
