NEWCASTLE UNITED are ready to make a new move for Tino Livramento, with Southampton reportedly lining up Norwich City defender Max Aarons as a potential replacement for their in-demand right-back.
The Magpies have held a number of discussions over Livramento already this summer, but have so far been unable to agree a deal for the 20-year-old.
A proposed bid of around £20m was turned down earlier this month, with Southampton holding out for a much higher fee for the youngster.
The Saints agreed a hefty sell-on fee as part of the deal that saw Livramento move to St Mary’s from Chelsea in the summer of 2021, and are therefore determined to hold out for the best possible deal this summer.
Newcastle’s recruitment team have always felt there is considerable scope for negotiation though, with Southampton preparing for life in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Further talks are anticipated, with the Magpies’ Financial Fair Play position having been eased somewhat by Allan Saint-Maximin’s move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Newcastle’s hopes of prising Livramento from the Saints have also been boosted by this weekend’s reports suggesting Southampton are now actively targeting Aarons as a potential replacement at right-back.
Aarons has entered the final year of his current contract with Norwich City, with the hierarchy at Carrow Road having conceded that the time is probably right for the defender to move on.
Having broken through Norwich’s youth ranks as a teenager, Aarons has made more than 200 senior appearances for the Norfolk club. However, the Canaries signed Jack Stacey from Bournemouth earlier this summer, suggesting they are preparing themselves for Aarons’ departure.
If Aarons was to move to Southampton, there is every chance he would head to St Mary’s as Livramento’s replacement, with the domino effect potentially taking the latter to St James’ Park.
Newcastle have made two first-team signings this summer, bringing in Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, but Eddie Howe would ideally like to make another couple of additions before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.
A new full-back has always been a priority, and Howe is also keen to recruit another centre-half to provide some additional cover and competition at the heart of the back four.
There has already been one departure in the full-back positions this summer, with Jamal Lewis joining Watford on a loan deal that could lead to a permanent transfer, and Harrison Ashby is also close to securing a loan switch to Swansea City.
