EDDIE Howe has emphatically made clear his feelings on Allan Saint-Maximin's future, saying he "definitely" wants to keep the winger on Tyneside this summer.
Saint-Maximin is no stranger to speculation about his future but talk of a summer exit has ramped up in recent weeks, with the Magpies looking to sign Harvey Barnes while also working to ensure they comply with financial fair play regulations.
Howe admitted after Saturday's pre-season friendly win at Gateshead that Newcastle are working to a "very strict budget" after the £50m+ capture of Sandro Tonali, with the head coach still desperate to add more new signings to his squad to ensure United have the depth to challenge on all fronts next season.
Saint-Maximin is a sellable asset and clubs in Saudi are reportedly monitoring his situation, with Everton, Crystal Palace and AC Milan also linked.
Howe, though, is adamant that he wants the winger to stay put. The 26-year-old was Newcastle's brightest player in the win at Gateshead, showing flashes of class in the first half before he created a goal for Elliot Anderson and scored the equaliser in the second.

Asked afterwards whether he wants to keep Saint-Maximin this summer, Howe said: "Definitely. I love Allan, I've said that many times.
"You saw his quality today, when he went to his best position as a left winger I thought he was excellent. He took his goal really well, he's come back in a good place mentally. I'm very pleased with him."
Earlier this week Saint-Maximin took to social media in what appeared to be a response to the speculation surrounding his future.
He wrote on Instagram: “People can keep talking when they know nothing. I just keep working.”
