NEWCASTLE are confident that Southampton will soften their stance on Tino Livramento as the Magpies push to bring the full-back to Tyneside.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle's recruitment team have had eyes on a number of relegated Premier League players, with Southampton's James Ward-Prowse and Leeds United's Tyler Adams discussed, as well as the club's well-known interest in James Maddison, who looks increasingly likely to join Tottenham this summer.

Southampton reluctantly accept that Livramento is one of the players who will inevitably leave St Mary's this summer after their relegation from the Premier League, and Newcastle are in talks with the Saints.

As things stand, Southampton's asking price is an obstacle, with the Championship side said to value the full-back between £25m and £30m - with Newcastle wanting to pay around £15m.

But there's confidence on Tyneside that a deal will be struck. It's likely that Ryan Fraser will head the other way and join Southampton after falling out of the first team picture at Newcastle.

Fraser's last Premier League appearance for Newcastle came in October. He was sent to train with the Under-21s earlier this year and isn't part of Howe's plans.

Livramento was regular for England throughout the age groups and has played five times for the Under-21s. He joined Southampton from Chelsea two years ago.

The young defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament in April last year, so missed almost all of the most recent campaign, returning to action for the last two games - by which time Southampton's relegation had already been confirmed.
