Darlington are hoping to sign Aaron Martin from Gateshead.
Quakers attempted to bring in the striker midway through last season, but he remained with the Heed and played at Wembley in the FA Trophy final when Gateshead lost to Halifax Town.
He moved to the International Stadium from Harrogate Town in July 2022, signing a two-year deal so remains under contract with Gateshead for another 12 months.
Martin, who turns 32 next month, was not a regular scorer last season, netting twice in 26 appearances, though half of his games were as a substitute.
Prior to joining Harrogate in 2020, when he helped them earn promotion to League Two, Martin netted 16 times in 20 games for Guiseley in the National League North.
Darlington manager Alun Armstrong has made four additions to his squad so far this summer: Tom Platt, Cameron Salkeld, Toby Lees and Jordan Mustoe.
Quakers begin pre-season training on Saturday at Eastbourne Sports Complex, and their first friendly is on Tuesday, July 4 at Tadcaster Albion (7.45pm).
