JOSH Kelly's upcoming clash against Gabriel Corzo has been put back after the Sunderland fighter picked up an injury in training.
The No.2 ranked super welterweight in the world was due to fight the unbeaten Argentinian in Newcastle on Saturday, June 24, but the meeting has now been been pushed back three weeks to Saturday, July 15.
Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: "Josh has been firing on all cylinders in the gym of late, and was itching to get back in the ring in front of his brilliant fans.
"However, he suffered an injury in training which means we have to push his return back three weeks.
"But Josh will be ready for July 15, where he will deliver a statement performance to the rest of the division, live on DAZN."
Sunderland-born Kelly is hoping to see off Corzo as he bids to set-up a future world title fight with Jermell Charlo.
Kelly, who beat Darlington's Troy Williamson last time out, said last week “I am looking for the big names now. Having just turned 29, I am coming into my prime, and Corzo is going to be in trouble later this month. I know I will get the chance for this world title in the next 12 months – and I will win it.”
Corzo, however, insists he's making the trip to the North-East with his own big ambitions.
He said: "Make no mistake, Josh Kelly’s World title dream will end and mine will get closer to being a reality.
“I am not travelling all the way from Argentina to make up the numbers.
“I want my shot at the World title and Kelly is standing in my way of that, so he must be moved aside. I hope Kelly’s fans are prepared for the upset that is coming.”
All tickets bought for the original date remain valid for the new date of July 15, with Kelly vs Corzo still being staged at the Vertu Motors Arena, in Newcastle as planned.
Any ticket holder unable to make the new date and who requires a full refund is asked to get in touch with their point of contact in the next seven days.
