NECTARIOS TRIANTIS’ move to Sunderland should be completed in the next couple of weeks, with the Australian defender having signed off from Central Coast Mariners in style this weekend.
The Black Cats are understood to have agreed the terms of a deal that will see Traintis move to Wearside for an initial fee of around £300,000.
The 20-year-old centre-half is poised to sign a long-term deal at the Stadium of Light, but did not want to discuss his future ahead of this weekend’s A-League Grand final.
The game could not have gone any better, with Traintis impressing at the heart of the Central Coast Mariners defence as his side thrashed Melbourne City 6-1.
Traintis played for the opening 85 minutes of the game before substituted in the closing stages, with his departure being interpreted in a number of quarters as his farewell act ahead of a switch to England.

Triantis, who joined Central Coast Mariners last year from Western Sydney Wanderers, has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Australian top-flight, making 25 senior appearances as his side finished the campaign as cup winners.
The youngster was asked about his future in the wake of the final win, and said: “You never know (what is going to happen). I’ve got two years left on my contract. I love this club, and I’ll always give everything for this club.”
Sunderland have agreed a deal that will see Jobe Bellingham join when the transfer window officially reopens, with the youngster leaving Birmingham City for a fee of around £3m.
Bellingham, who watched the first leg of Sunderland’s play-off semi-final against Luton Town from the Stadium of Light stands last month, made five Championship starts and 17 substitute appearances with Birmingham last season.
Sunderland officials have also held talks with Portuguese forward Luis Semedo, who is set to become a free agent later this summer when his current contract with Benfica expires.
