EDOUARD Michut claims it was his decision to leave Sunderland at the end of his loan spell - but the PSG midfielder has no regrets as he looks back on his time on Wearside.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and Sunderland had the option to make the deal permanent this summer.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman last week said it was Sunderland's decision not to take up the option after lengthy talks with Michut and his representatives, but the midfielder now claims it was his decision to return to PSG and not stay with the Black Cats.

Regardless, he says his time at the Stadium of Light was beneficial and says he made the "right choice" by joining Sunderland 12 months ago.

Despite a slow start, Michut developed into a key player for the Black Cats, playing 24 times in the Championship for Tony Mowbray's side.

He said: "It's been a very good season to develop, to be ready for future years since it's a Championship that is still incredibly intense and technically complicated.

"It took a bit of time to start for me to play games, especially because of some physical glitches as well as the adaptation to a new football, but I think I made the right choice by going to play for Sunderland."

He added:  "The club offered me the opportunity to stay. It was my decision to leave Sunderland. We didn't agree on certain contractual points. There were also a few things in the style of play that didn’t suit me.

"I'm more of a player who touches between 80 and 100 balls per game and, in this pattern, I'm at 50-60 maximum. I thank the president for understanding my choice not to stay."

Fulham have been linked with a summer move for Michut, who says he'll consider his options.

He told L'Equipe: "While waiting to see how things go, I prepare for all eventualities. Paris has not yet finished its Championship; we will see then. My perspective is to continue to flourish, to find the project that suits me the most.”

Meanwhile, Sunderland have revealed that more than 29,000 season tickets have already been sold as they go back on sale to supporters.
