NEWCASTLE UNITED need one point from their remaining two matches to secure qualification for the Champions League.
Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa this afternoon means the Reds are now three points adrift of Newcastle in the Premier League table.
While Liverpool only have one more game to play, the Magpies have two games remaining.
Provided they take at least one point from either of those matches, they will be guaranteed to finish in either third or fourth position in the final table.
A top-four finish guarantees an automatic position in the group stages of next season's Champions League.

Newcastle's first opportunity to guarantee a top-four spot comes on Monday evening when they host Leicester City at St James' Park in their final home game of the season.
The Magpies then finish the campaign with an away game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a week tomorrow.
If Newcastle make it into the Champions League, they will be returning to European football's premier competition for the first time since 2003.
