EDDIE HOWE admits Newcastle United are currently benefiting from a “dream scenario” where two of the best strikers in the Premier League are pushing themselves to even greater heights.
Alexander Isak scored twice in the weekend win over Tottenham, with Callum Wilson coming off the bench to score the final goal in the Magpies’ 6-1 victory, but the roles were reversed in this evening’s 4-1 win at Everton.
With Isak on the bench, Wilson scored a goal in each half to help power Newcastle to victory, before Isak came on as a substitute to produce a sensational run that set up Jacob Murphy’s goal to complete the scoring.
Howe said: “At the moment, it’s a dream scenario because I think both players know they can’t afford a bad game. The other player is breathing down their neck, and it’s very healthy competition at the moment.

“I think there’s a lot of respect between both players, I think they understand how good each other’s strengths are.”
Howe was delighted with the performance of both forwards at Goodison Park, with Wilson following up his close-range opener with a sensational long-range strike that made it 3-0 to the Magpies.
Isak then produced his own moment of magic as he skipped past four Everton defenders before delivering the cross that enabled Murphy to complete the scoring.
Howe said: “I was really pleased with Callum today. I thought he took his first goal really well. It was a massive goal for us, and the second was an incredible finish, not normally his type of goal but he’s proved that he’s capable.
“Then, Alex comes on and sets up the (fourth) goal with an incredible piece of skill. It was an amazing piece of footwork. It was a good night for those two players.”
