NEWCASTLE have been told to prepare for an "uncomfortable" night at Goodison Park as struggling Everton look for a much-needed boost in their battle to avoid the drop.
The Toffees are in the relegation zone, winless in five and are running out of time in their battle to avoid a first relegation from the Premier League as they prepare to host Newcastle United on Thursday night.
The Magpies, on the other hand, are on a high and, after their hammering of Tottenham, can take another huge step towards securing Champions League football next season.
Everton forward Demarai Gray says the hosts are well aware of Newcastle's threats but has called on the home fans to make life difficult for Eddie Howe's side.
Gray said: “They (Newcastle) have shown their ability this season, especially with the position they are in.
“They have done well, and we are aware they will be confident on the back of last weekend’s win. But any team that comes to Goodison knows it’s never easy. It’s never going to be comfortable. If we focus on our game, our plan and apply ourselves right for the game then we can fight for the points.
“When the fans are behind us, it helps massively. It’s never an easy place to play, we need to feed off the atmosphere and make it a tough game for Newcastle. We know how important a win could be and we’re desperate to get one.”
There's a double Everton boost for Sean Dyche ahead of the game, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both set to be available.
Doucoure is back in contention after serving a three-match ban, while Calvert-Lewin returned to action in the weekend draw with Crystal Palace after 10 games out. Amadou Onana could also be fit after missing the last two games with a groin injury.
Forward Alex Iwobi said: "It’s another game at home with the fans behind us.That should lift and motivate us. Newcastle are coming off the back of a good win, but we’ve got the motivation and a couple of players coming back. Doucs and Dom are back.
“Hopefully Amadou will be back as well. With everyone returning, there is strength in depth in the squad, so we should do well. The result we had last time at home against them should give us added motivation, too.”
